The Gordon C. Leitch was our most unusual visitor in 2002. It arrived at Marinette Fuel & Dock on Nov. 26 with a load of pig iron. The ship is operated by Upper Lakes Shipping, a company which seldom gets up our way.

Pere Marquette 41 - Unloading pig iron at Marinette Fuel & Dock on Dec. 4 after an accident in October almost ended its career; note that only a single backhoe is left to do the unloading - a conveyor and other equipment was lost in Lake Michigan when huge waves caused a load of pig iron and the machinery to shift, which rolled the barge to the point where the equipment and most of the load of pig iron (ironically destined for Marinette) was lost over the side.

That's it for 2000 - Hope you enjoyed the photos!
