Wind Turbines & Large Rocks at KK Integrated Logistics on Aug. 23

On Monday, Aug. 23, the BBC Mississippi arrived in the bay of Green Bay off Menominee, MI shortly before 4 p.m. The Selvick tug, Jacquelyn Nicole, assisted the ship stern-first into port, through the Ogden Street (Menekaunee) Bridge, and finally to the KK Integrated logistics East Dock. The ship is carrying another load of wind turbine tower sections.

Also at KK Integrated Logistics that same day was the tug, Donald C, and its two barges. They are here to pick up another load of rock for a Lake Michigan project. Last time they were here, they took some smaller rock (up to 3-4 tons each). This time, they are hauling much larger rocks (up to 15-16 tons each). First, a heavy forklift picks up one of the rocks from a storage area on the dock. It then moves the rock to the staging area and lowers it onto wooden beams from which the crane picks it up and lifts it onto the barge. Each of these rocks has to be carefully loaded one at a time onto the barge. One barge was just about loaded by 5 p.m.
