Welcome to my "Wisconsin Waterfalls" Page. First, let me present some of the waterfalls in my area: Marinette County (photographed on Sept. 10, 2008); then go on to northern Wisconsin working our way from Superior, WI eastward (south to north along the way) over to Hurley, WI (photographed during a trip between Sept. 28 and Oct. 7, 2008). At the bottom of this page is a small gallery of ships in Superior, WI (in a larger photo-format than the same photos included in the slideshow). Just above that section of this page is a link to that slideshow (actually 2 slideshows linked together) of scenes from around Superior, WI (and also around Duluth, MN) - ships, an old ore dock, and more.

I would like to recommend the book Wisconsin Waterfalls by: Patrick Lisi to anyone who wants to go waterfall hunting in Wisconsin. The directions and descriptions are very well presented.

Click Here for more waterfall photos from Michigan and Minnesota.

Image to the right:

Big Manitou Falls in Pattison State Park south of Superior, which is the highest in Wisconsin and the fourth highest waterfall in the U.S. east of the Rockies!!

NOTE: The file sizes of these photos are mostly in the 180KB - 280KB range (about three times larger than other files on this site), so they may take a little longer to load

Marinette County:

The following 3 links will take you to slideshows of waterfalls in different areas of the county:

.... And some Fall Colors in northern Marinette County south of Niagara on an overcast Oct. 7 day

Brown County:

This seasonal waterfall (this falls usually flows only in the Spring when the winter "run-off" is in full flow. I stopped here last Fall and the waterfall was completely dry), Wequiock Falls, was in good flow on March 21, 2010. The falls are just off HWY 57 a couple blocks north of where HWY 54 intersects with HWY 57.

Wequiock Falls - A view from the south side of the falls
Wequiock Falls - South side close-up
Wequiock Falls - Looking east from a viewing area to the west of the falls
Wequiock Falls - Close-up looking east
Wequiock Falls - Going down some stone steps gives you this view looking east
Wequiock Falls - Wide view of the small gorge looking east from the west lower viewing area

Now let's check out some waterfalls in the northern part of Wisconsin:

Pattison State Park, Black River (about 13 miles south of Superior):

Big Manitou Falls - This little man-made falls leads down to the main falls
Big Manitou Falls - This cascading rapids leads to Big Manitou, which drop off at the right of the photo
Big Manitou Falls - The top of the 165-ft. waterfall, which is the highest in Wisconsin and the fourth highest waterfall in the U.S. east of the Rockies!!
Big Manitou Falls - The bottom of this huge waterfall
Big Manitou Falls - Moving to the other side of the Black River we see the entire 165-ft. drop of this trmendous falls

Little Manitou Falls - A little further down the road is this beautiful waterfall

Amnicon Falls in Amnicon State Park, Amnicon River(about 10 miles east of Superior):

The waterfalls in this park are presented in slideshow format:

To return to this page from within the slide show - hit the UP-facing arrow (when viewing any individual photo) to go back to the thumbnails page and then click on "Return to Wisconsin Waterfalls".

Morgan Falls, Morgan Creek (about 12 miles west of Mellen):

Morgan Falls - This approx. 70-ft. waterfall slides down a narrow gorge to the pool below (there was a scout troop climbing the area around the falls while I was there)
Morgan Falls - This is the bottom of the falls after it takes a 90-degree turn from the falls above

Copper Falls State Park, Bad River & Tyler Forks River (3 miles northeast of Mellen):

Loon Lake - A lake that is a natural loon habitat (with good fall colors) greets us at the entrance to the park
Loon Lake - A look at the near end of the lake (those are geese, not loons, in the photo)

Copper Falls - A wide view of the falls (note the thin waterfall to the right of the photo)
Copper Falls - A view of the main falls
Copper Falls - A closer view of the higher, narrower falls

Brownstone Falls - Further downstream is this beautiful falls near the junction of Bad River and Tyler Forks River
Brownstone Falls - A view of the falls above the main drop
Brownstone Falls - ... and a close-up of the main falls

Potato River Falls (about one mile southwest of Gurney):

Potato River Falls - A wide view of the entire waterfall
Potato River Falls - Close-up of the very top of the falls
Potato River Falls - Close-up of the middle part of the falls
Potato River Falls - ... and the middle and bottom falls
Potato River Falls - A little further along is this waterfall (mostly obscured by foliage)

Upson Falls (located in a town park in the town of Upson):

Upson - These beautiful fall colors greeted me as I approached the town of Upson
Lower Upson Fals - Close-up of the twisting Lower Falls
Upper Upson Falls - Wide view of the much larger Upper Falls
Upper Upson Falls - Close-up of the falls that I almost missed ... they are hidden from the main park, but visible through the trees at the park's entrance; if I had not re-checked the book, I would have missed them, as I did not see them at first and had actually left the park. I found them when I returned after reading that there was a 15-ft. waterfall (the one I had missed).

And finally, just a couple photos of the old ore dock and a sign in Ashland, WI:

Ore Dock - The fate of this structure hangs in the balance; it has been out of service for some time.
Interesting sign - This largemouth bass is alongside a place that sells fish

Scenes from around Superior, WI and Duluth, MN

The following is a two-part slideshow of scenes from around the Twin Ports. The photos include ships, scenery and more:

Click Here to go to the scenic slideshow (The Superior scenes are about halfway down the page).

Ship Photos - for all my viewers who love ships, here are some larger photos (than those found in the slideshows) in my standard 1024 x 768 (pixels) format:

Meteor - An old "whaleback" steamer on display and open for tours in Superior (photo Sept. 29)
Meteor - Stern view of the old ship, which sits high and dry on land
J.A.W. Iglehart - Wide view at the cement dock on Sept. 29
J.A.W. Iglehart - Close-up of the venerable old ship, now used as a cement storage vessel
Hans Lehman - Saltie (foreign ship) at CHS-1 (Harvest States grain elevator) on Sept. 29

Hans Lehman - Close-up of the colorful saltie loading grain
Orsula - Wide view of the saltie on Oct. 5 loading grain, with a marina and fish tug pier in the foreground
Orsula - Close-up as grain is loaded into the ship

Well, that concludes the Wisconsin portion of my latest waterfall trip.

Hope you enjoyed the tour!
