On Sunday night, Aug. 10, the James Norris of Upper Lakes Shipping paid a rare visit to Marinette when it delivered a load of coal to Marinette Fuel & Dock Co. These loads are normally handled exclusively by Algoma Central Marine ships. However, Algoma is in partnership with Upper Lakes Shipping, both of which are managed by Seaway Marine Transport; and the James Norris took this load. The Norris arrived about 11 p.m. on Sunday night and tied up at the dock around midnight. The unloading took until 6:30 a.m. Monday. In the meantime, the Algorail, an Algoma Central Marine ship, arrived with another load of salt, but had to anchor out in the bay for a couple hours until the James Norris finished unloading and backed out of the harbor. The Algorail tied up at Marinette Fuel & Dock around 8 a.m. and finished unloading around 1:30 p.m. The Algorail then backed out past Menominee North Pier Lighthouse shortly after 2 p.m. and headed for its next port.
